Harlesden is located in the London Borough of Brent and is northwest of the central city hub. With its own stop on the Bakerloo tube line, it has good transport links and property prices that are below the London average. Close to Kensal Green and Queens Park, the area has been the focus of much regeneration and is now growing in popularity with young professionals who need affordable housing with good transport links. Houses here tend to be made up of traditional Victorian terraces along with a selection of social housing. The NW10 Harlesden area has also become affectionately known as the unofficial Reggae capital of London and has a strong Caribbean community with smaller Brazilian, Portuguese and Colombian groups. As a result, the town has a vibrant and cosmopolitan feel and has a number of trendy bars and restaurants dotted around the main streets. The Jubilee Clock is also a wonderful focal point and is a fitting commemoration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. While its regeneration is proving to be a success it is worth noting that the area was named as the murder capital of the UK in the 1990’s.
